Dr. Mikao Usui

Reiki is a healing technique systemized by Dr. Mikao Usui in the late 19th century. Dr. Usui was on a 21 day fasting retreat on Mount Kurama and on his last day of fasting, he “received” the sacred Reiki symbols in Sanskrit. These symbols were Dr. Usui’s Rosetta Stone, and became the very foundation of Reiki.

Reiki is pronounced “Ray-Key” and the Reiki - Kanji (Japanese symbol), is comprised of two characters. The character on top, “Rei”, represents spirit, soul -- universal intelligence. The bottom character “Ki” is translated as the vital life force energy which flows through all that is alive. Together, Reiki is simply “universal life force energy.” In other cultures, this energy is referred to as prana and chi. The certified Reiki Practitioner is a conduit for this flow of life force energy. Reiki Practitioners receive attunements initiating and activating the flow of Reiki energy and its sacred symbols are imprinted in their energetic fields. Receiving proper instruction and certification is paramount in practicing Reiki as it was envisioned by Dr. Usui.

In technical terms, Reiki is comprised of a sequence of hand positions resting slightly above the body. Reiki can be used safely regardless of the current state of health. It is an energetic compliment partnered with conventional medicine or natural, homeopathic remedies.

“Reiki energy has an intelligence of its own and therefore

knows where and how a person needs healing.”

Alexandra Juliani, American Reiki Academy

Reiki stimulates natural healing (self-healing), thereby boosting the immune system and assists in the recovery of acute and chronic ailments. It is deeply relaxing and therefore an effective therapeutic to reduce stress and anxiety.

Reiki also facilitates the release of negative thought patterning and emotions, clearing out static and toxic emotional “debris.” During the session, individuals have expressed feeling a deep sense of relaxation, a soothing feeling of warmth on the body, floating sensations, tingling, a general sense of calm and an effortless release of blocked emotions -- ultimately facilitating an overall feeling of balance, alignment and well-being.
